2001 CHEVY EXPRESS 3500: VAN..I CHANGED THE DISTRUBATOR BECAUSE IT

I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY EXPRESS 3500 VAN 5.7. I CHANGED THE DISTRUBATOR BECAUSE IT WAS CODING RANDOM MISFIRE. MY ENGINE IS NOW RUNNING GOOD, BUT I AM CODING A P1345. I PUT THE NEW DISTRUBATOR IN THE WAY I TOOK IT OUT. HOW DO I GET THE P1345 CODE OUT? I HAVE TAKEN IT OUT THREE OR FOUR TIMES BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK. PLEASE LET ME NO WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO INSTALL A DISTRUBTOR? I ALSO HAVE CHANGED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR, BUT THIS DID NOT HELP EITHER. WHAT DO YOU RECOMEND TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

YES I HAVE AN OBD2 SCANNER AND I DON'T NO WHAT THE RETARD IS SET AT.

THERE IS ONLY ONE TIMING PLATE WITH ONE V SLOT ON THIS CAR. I RECEIVED THREE E-MAIL'S FROM YOU. I AM ASKING THE ONE QUESTION ABOUT MY 2001 CHEVY EXPRESS NOT MY FORD E-150.

Fred,

I know what your vehicle is. I am not sure why it was in the Ford category. I had to move your question before I replied to it.

Your code is caused by the distributor being in wrong or out of adjustment. You might have to remove it and put it back in. Or, you might be able to get away with just turning the distributor. Either way, you will need to get your hands on a scanner that will read camshaft offset retard. Set the distributor so this reading is at 0 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees.

I LINED THE CRANK SHAFT AT THE MARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE AT TOP DEAD CENTER. I LINED THE NUMBER ONE POST OF THE DISTRUBITOR CAP WHERE THE ROTOR WAS POINTING. ALSO THE THE DISTRIBUTOR POST MARKS. WHERE THEY WERE. THE ENGINE WAS MISSING, WITH THE NEW DISTRUBTOR. ITS RUNNING GOOD,ON THE CRANK SHAFT PLATE THERE IS ONLY A V SLOT.

But again.. this code is caused by the distributor being out of adjustment. It may just need to be turned ever so slightly

I HAVED MOVED THE DISRIBUTOR ABOUT 10 TIMES ALL DIFFERENT WAYS IT STILL CODES COULD IT BE A BAD DISTRIBUTOR

I AM GETTING ANOTHER NEW DISTRUBATOR TOMORROW . THE NEW ONE I HAVE NOW IS MAKING A SQUEALING NOISE ON AND OFF. ALSO THE PROCEDURE WHEN I TIMED THE MOTOR THAT I DESCRIBE TO YOU. IS THAT THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT ON THIS MOTOR? THERE ARE ALSO TWO YELLOW MARKS ON THE SHAFT WHICH I SET THE NEW DISTRUBTOR THE SAME WAY.

THAT SHOULD GET ME CLOSE TO THE 0 TIMING.PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS.

From what you have told me, you did put the distributor in correctly. However, if it is turned just ever so slightly too far either way, it will cause this code. You need to get a reading from a scan tool and adjust the distributor setting by way of the camshaft off set retard.
