It seems that your wife is very troubled about something. Insomnia, or inability to sleep, is often a sign of depression.
Something is troubling her deeply and the best comfort that she can get is to read the bible. This soothes her and may make her fall asleep.
Can you tell me what it might be that is on her mind?
She may be worried about her children.
If cold be an illness in the family.
She may be experience some kind of physical symptoms that are troubling her.
She may be upset or hurt by something that someone did.
She may feel guilt about something she did, recently or a long time ago.
She may be troubled by something that was done to her, possibly long ago.
Perhaps she is taking a prescription medication that interferes with here sleep.
Most likely it is depression of some kind, and reading her bible and thinking of God's word's is her best therapy.
I shall keep her in my prayers.
